Meet Chris Shanklin, MD

Lubbock Native. Red Raider. Mentor. The guy behind it all.

Lubbock High grad took on TTU for undergrad, medical school, and residency to become his family’s 4th-generation Texas Tech alum.

With LBK & TTU roots that run deep, staying in the 806 to open his own clinic was a no-brainer. Dr. Shanklin loves taking care of the good people in West Texas and is so excited to expand his reach with additional clinics in Midland and now Abilene.

Meet Darlene Cornwell, FNP-C

Darlene Cornwell has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare. She began her career as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery and has also worked in the operating room, oncology, and healthcare administration. She has been practicing as a Nurse Practitioner for the past 13 years.

Darlene is especially passionate about caring for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, helping them navigate symptoms with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

Outside of her professional work, Darlene has been married to her husband for 20 years and enjoys raising their two teenage children. In her free time, she loves traveling, being outdoors, and staying active.

Meet Karen Gordy, FNP-C

Karen Gordy grew up in the small town of Coleman, Texas, and moved to Lubbock in 1999 to attend college. After completing her degrees at TTUHSC, she has spent the past 20 years in the medical field, with experience in cardiothoracic critical care, the operating room, and emergency medicine. For the last 10 years, she has practiced as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Medicine.

Caring for people through the different stages of life is her calling—and she believes aging is simply “leveling up,” not something to be viewed negatively. Much like a video game, doing well allows you to advance to the next level.

She is married and has two children who keep her laughing and shaking her head in equal measure.

Meet Dr. Amanda Backlund, M.D.

Inspired to become a physician at just five years old, Dr. Backlund has remained dedicated to helping others ever since. She focuses on building meaningful relationships with her patients and creating personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals.
